Physiologists study how the body functions. An exercise physiologist specializes in understanding demands placed upon the body by exercise and and uses this knowledge to help athletes improve performance. At least that is what we do at Incline Training. Exercise physiologists can have many different job descriptions, but our mission at Incline Training is to help healthy people train smarter.
One of the easiest ways to understand our job is to think of a car. Even if your car is running well, you might want to add some horse power prior to entering a race or driving event. To do this, you would visit a specialist who could advise you how to get the most out of your vehicle.
An athlete can modify the body through training to better perform a given task. Your muscles are motors that function much like car engines. Just as a car engine burns gas to produce motion, your muscles burn food to produce motion. Both engines require oxygen and fuel to operate correctly. Both your car and your body contain multiple systems that must work in concert to achieve an optimal outcome.
At Incline Training, we understand how your body's systems function and how training affects each of these systems. We can do a short test or series of tests to understand your individual strengths and weaknesses. We then recommend a training program that is most likely to help you achieve your goals. By consulting with the the specialists at Incline Training, you ensure that your training meets your needs. |
